1. What is green waste recycling?

Green waste recycling is a voluntary program for curbside collection of green yard waste. Green waste materials include:

• Clippings from bushes or shrubs
• Garden waste and produce
• Lawn cuttings
• Leaves
• Other similar green yard waste

2. What should not go in the green waste container?

Residents may not place the following in their green waste recycling containers: 

• Dirt
• Food waste
• Paper
• Rocks
• Sod

Additionally, green waste should not be bagged.

3. Why recycle yard trimmings?

Green waste materials are relatively clean, biodegradable, and unnecessarily take up space in landfills. The materials can be turned into mulch and compost material.  It also keeps the green waste out of the landfill, which extends the life of the landfill. 

4. How much does green waste recycling cost?

A green waste container currently costs $7.63 per month.  This cost covers the City’s costs and ensures an affordable green waste program. Learn more about monthly residential utility billing.

5. What if I don’t want to participate in green waste recycling?

The Green Waste Program is voluntary.  Once enrolled, residents must keep the can and pay for the service for a minimum of 6 months or a $35 cancellation fee will apply. 

6. How does the Green Waste Program work?

Participating residents will receive an additional green container. The can will be picked up each week on the same day as your regular trash pick-up but by a different truck.  Both services will be provided by the City’s current hauler, Robinson Waste. 

Cans must be kept for a minimum of six months. During the winter months (December 1 to March 31), the green waste container may be used for regular household waste.   

7. What if I have an issue with my green waste container?
